How Do I Prepare For Dental Surgery?

Please have your pre/post-operative prescriptions filled prior to your scheduled procedure. Please bring your filled prescriptions with you to your appointment.

It may be important to stop taking 325mg aspirin 7-10 days prior to your surgery. If you are taking Coumadin, Plavix, or another blood thinner, please follow the pre-operative instructions given to you by your physician. Please take any prescribed medications as directed before your surgery.

In order to evaluate your progress and healing, we will see you multiple times for post-operative checks during the first few weeks. Following completion of therapy we will also look forward to seeing you back for a cleaning and an examination about 10-12 weeks following the surgery.


Please alert the office to any allergies or sensitivities that you might have to antibiotics (or any other medications). You will likely be prescribed an antibiotic to take starting 1-2 days before surgery. Take the antibiotic as directed until it is all gone. It is advisable not to take these medications on an empty stomach, as nausea may result. For women taking birth control pills, be advised that antibiotics may interfere with their effectiveness.


If you elect to have sedation for your procedure, please be advised that you will need a family member or friend to drive you home and stay with you until the effects of the sedation is gone. Please do not eat or drink anything 6 hours prior to your surgery unless directed to do so. Failure to follow these instructions will prevent us from sedating you for the procedure. Please remember to wear loose fitting clothing that will allow us easy access to your arms.
